Sensory Processing and the A SECRET Framework

This presentation introduces our eight sensory systems and the concept of being ‘regulated’ – calm but alert, and able to match our energy to the task we are completing. We do this by using sensory input to stimulate or calm our nervous systems. We explore the different ways in which neurodivergent people with Sensory Processing Difficulties (SPD) may experience sensory input in much or less intense ways than neurotypical people.

Difficult Conversations: Finding Ways to Collaborate with Families

Many educators feel hesitant to discuss their concerns about a child’s development with the family members / guardians. They may feel that they ‘are not on the same page’ as the family. This presentation considers some different perspectives of families and the barriers which might be stopping them from requesting additional support for their child. We consider ways to begin the collaborative conversation with families by observing strengths as well as challenges for the child.
