Early childhood feeding support training
Supporting Sensory Eating
Supporting sensory eating courses from Early Childhood Outreach provide early childhood feeding support training for educators across Australia who are supporting children with restricted diets due to sensory issues.
| Duration | Up to 2 hours for a live session including time for discussion. Pre-recorded content may be shorter |
| Delivery | Your choice of live online, in-person, or pre-recorded presentation |
| AEDC Domain | Physical health and wellbeing |
In this live presentation we will consider the Sensory Processing differences often observed in Neurodivergent children, or those who have experienced trauma, especially around food. We will look at how these differences can affect the child’s ability to tolerate a wide range of food tastes, colours, smells and textures. Practical ideas for supporting sensory eaters to access safe foods in a way that matches their sensory profile will be provided.
In a face to face session, educators will have the opportunity to reflect on their centre’s food and mealtime policies, and their current practice.
The online, pre-recorded version is shorter.
By understanding sensory processing and recognising how individual sensory profiles can influence eating, educators can consider practical sensory eating strategies that respond to the needs of the children in their setting. The training has a particular focus on supporting sensory eaters in childcare and early childhood environments.
